Chuck taught me how to work on the radio, before I could even drive. He started out as a trainer, co-worker and quickly became my friend. After I graduated High School I left 98Q and moved out of the area. We kept in touch all that time and he always made a big deal about my birthday, over the air, when it came around.
When I came back in the summer of '05, Chuck was as excited as I was. We've spent many remotes, onion festivals, and broadcasts laughing and making faces through the window that separates the 98Q and Sweet Onion Country studios.
I will miss calling him after every break during the Blood Mobile's to chat about what song he was going to play next or how the remote was going.
Since October, he and I have shared an office at the station. In fact, that is where I sit right now and type these thoughts. Behind me, sits his desk and behind it are his greatest accomplishments, which include his favorite. The pictures of his beautiful children adorn his shelf as a constant reminder of how proud of them he was.
As I walk through the halls of this radio station, I hear stories and laughter accompanied by sorrowful tears. But, if Chuck could tell me how to handle this, I know he'd say, "Just pray, lil' bro."
We love you, buddy.
