I've known Chuck for 17 or 18 years and the news of his passing reminds me of what it's like to lose a close friend. Over the years I've learned that Chuck could make anyone feel like he'd known them for years. What I'll remember about Chuck will be how he genuinely cared about how me and my family were doing. I could talk to him about anything at anytime. And he'd often ask if I was going to see mom & dad over Christmas or just ask how they were doing in general. He had never really met them. I experienced some sadness by having my 2 dogs pass away very close together. Chuck was genuinely concerned about how I was taking it. Speaking of.... My favorite Chuck story happened on a Saturday afternoon in the late 1990s. I had to do a little work and since I felt the radio station would be deserted I took my large dog Bear along for the ride. Bear resembled a werewolf. While closed in our production room I let Bear have the run of the station. About 15 or 20 minutes later I hear ferocious barking at the other end of the building. I run down the hall and there is Chuck cornered in the radio station's break room. Between the barks I'm explaining to Chuck how sweet Bear really is and he's not hearing that. "Come get this dog!!!" Chuck had a lot of good humor about the incident in the coming years and embellished the story in his way telling about the time he met Jim's 4-legged monster. Not long ago, about a year before Bear died, I brought her in so they could meet again and Chuck couldn't believe she was the same dog. "Mellowed out in her old age?" he said. I'll never forget Chuck carefully petting her. Chuck's good-natured personality in the morning will be something I greatly miss. Not to mention his smile-inducing laughter. He will always be one of the best friends I've ever had. - James "Jim" Perry
