Wow! What do you say about someone like Chuck that hasn’t already been said? For me, Chuck was a family member without being related. We were as close as brothers, and shared a special bond. I have known Chuck for many more years than either of us would have liked to admit and from the first day we were introduced we became friends.
Chuck’s friendship was one that I did not take lightly, because his was a rare one; it was one that lasted no matter the circumstance. It was an unconditional friendship. No matter what situation came up we remained the close friends that we’d promised we’d be many years ago.
You see you could always count on Chuck. When others turned their backs and had no time for you, Chuck was there. When you needed to vent and blow off some steam, Chuck was there. When you needed someone to stand by you, Chuck was there. When you needed someone to laugh with you, Chuck was there. And yes when you needed someone to cry with you and pray for you, Chuck was there.
Chuck also was always the consummate professional. Never can I remember him not doing his job and taking pride in his work. And work he did! Untold hours upon hours, not only at Vidalia Communications, but also second and third jobs, all because he wanted a better life for his children whom he loved very much. Through the countless ballgames that I have had the pleasure of doing in my twenty-seven plus years of sports, Chuck was the best in house producer I have ever worked with.
In a nutshell, Chuck made me a richer person for having known him. I can’t imagine traveling through this life without ever having known Charles Merrion. I am so blessed to have been counted as one of his friends and love him and have him love me back as a brother.
I do and will miss him forever!
